Calling All Volunteers!

If you fancy being right in the thick of the action during The Tall Ships Races 2010 you can now apply to be a volunteer – and all at the click of a button.

Hartlepool Borough Council's Tall Ships team is looking for around two hundred volunteers to help make the event run smoothly next August. And the application form for these vital roles is now available online. Crucial to the operation will be an army of liaison officers who'll make sure the captains and crews have everything they need during their stay in town.

Other volunteers will also be essential with duties including providing support for the Media and Crew Centres, and helping at various information points around the Tall Ships site. Individual volunteers will need to be at least sixteen years old (on 1 January 2010).

The council's Tall Ships Chief Liaison Officer Sarah Willan said: "There is a diverse range of volunteering roles that need to be filled and we welcome applications from anyone who thinks they have something to offer. This is an opportunity to be a vital part of The Tall Ships Races 2010, the biggest free event in the country next year."

The Tall Ships Office has already had much interest from prospective volunteers, many of which have previous experience. Trevor Paine, who, along with his wife, has applied to be a Liaison Officer said: "Having taken part in the final race of the Tall Ships 2008 from Bergen to Den Helder as a Youth Mentor on board Stavros S. Niarchos, I know the importance of a good liaison system and would like to be part of it again."

Mike Bloomfield, who has also applied said: "It is a remarkable achievement for Hartlepool to be chosen as a host port for the Tall Ships Races 2010. It will be a privilege and a great pleasure for those chosen to help as a volunteer and I am looking forward to this with great excitement."

Anyone who wants to apply should go to the Tall Ships website www.hartlepooltallships2010.com - follow the links to the Volunteers page, and complete the online application form. Full job descriptions for all the volunteer positions are also listed here.
