New additions to Borthwick empire

A highly regarded entrepreneur has launched two new arms to his already thriving Hartlepool business group. With an eye for opportunity and the commitment to see it through, Jamie Borthwick can offer true inspiration to other businesses within the town.

Still only 28 years of age, Jamie Borthwick has seen the establishment of two outstandingly successful businesses – first the highly reputable headstone and monument enterprise Borthwick Memorials, followed by the set up of kitchen worktop venture, Borthwick Marble & Granite. He has now launched two additional businesses – The Kitchen Studio and The Kitchen Renovation Company, which offer the design, manufacture and installation of bespoke kitchens, and renovation of existing ones to superior standards.

Jamie explains: “It was becoming increasingly common for kitchen worktop clients to ask if we were able to provide a full kitchen fitting service, especially when they felt we had delivered a high level of customer service. Many had suffered negative experiences with their own kitchen providers and were looking for a company they knew and could trust.

“This got me thinking as to whether it could be a realistic venture, and I began to investigate the possibilities. It’s important however for me to emphasise that this was not just a flash-in-the-pan idea, but something I have researched very carefully over the last 12 months and am taking extremely seriously.”

The development of the two new businesses has seen Jamie move from his previous workshop on Cromwell Street to brand new premises on Burn Road. All manufacture work is now undertaken from here, including headstones, kitchen worktops and the new kitchen construction work. The Kitchen Studio has already opened a luxury new showroom at the front of the premises, with additional showrooms being completed by the summer. These will also display a range of quality bathroom and bedroom furniture that the company has in stock for sale.

To make the venture possible, a brand new business partner has come on board, along with three new kitchen fitters who are also qualified in electrics, plumbing and plastering work. As a result, Jamie is now able to offer a 100% in-house service for every element of kitchen design, manufacture, and installation.

“There is no other business around,” Jamie comments, “that is able to offer quality kitchens as well as their own bespoke crafted worktops, and I think that will be a huge selling point to potential customers. We are consequently able to offer an all-inclusive product at a cheaper price, as we do not need to outsource any element of the service.”

Jamie acknowledges that in today’s economic climate, it has certainly paid for him to diversify into new industries and spread his services across a number of markets. Not necessarily going out in search of such ventures, he admits it is more a case of being aware of potential opportunities and being able to turn them into a profitable reality. Something for us all to consider in the current recession to ensure business survival and prosperity.
